I have a driver labeled "3" And I have iron #7 and a putter. And I'm a beginner and have a few questions.
*Why do drivers have numbers on them and what are the differences on their use?
*On the course I use the #7, is that good or not? And when should number: 1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9 be used?
*I have more old clubs that is SW (sand wedge) and one that says "DW" what is that? Is it necessary to carry all those clubs?
And why do people have 1 and 2 wood?

OK . Your woods, the ones with the bigger heads, are numbered in order. 1 is the driver. Then they go down. The bigger the number the higher the loft or angle of launch and also the shorter the shaft.
The larger angle launches the ball higher which cuts distance. The shorter shaft reduces your swing speed and also reduces distance.
The same idea with your irons.
The distance between irons is usually between 10 -15 yards per iron depending on the individual. Example, I hit my 7 iron 160 yards and then my 8 is 150 then 9 is 140 and so on .
You are alowed to carry no more than 14 clubs in your bag including the putter and each player may have his/her own preference of which clubs to carry.
For example, the most common set would be driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, irons 3 through 9 and pitching wedges, sand wedge, and putter. (That's only 13 clubs, allowing an extra of your choice)
However someone with trouble hitting long irons (3,4,) may decide to carry a 7 or 9 wood instead of these irons. There are also hybrid clubs, they are a cross between a wood and an iron.
Go to the driving range with what you have and if you decide to take the game up seriously, go to a golf store and try different sets out.
